Enlarged City School District of Middletown Superintendent Amy Creeden said the threat was received late Monday, Nov. 11, in Orange County at Monhagen Middle School in the town of Wallkill.

The threat, which Wallkill Police are actively investigating, was made on social media by an unidentified user who created a fake, well-known username in an attempt to gain attention. Creeden said the threat has been shared rapidly by and among students.

"As of late Monday evening, there is no evidence to indicate this threat is credible," she added. " However, in an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of all scholars, staff, and families, we will have additional security resources at all our campuses tomorrow.

All Middletown school campuses will open regularly on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Creeden said local law enforcement agencies will provide extra support as part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone.

Lt. Jeffrey Thoelen of the Middletown Police Department said the department has added patrols to the schools under its jurisdiction.

"Please know that the well-being of our scholars and staff is our top priority," Creeden said. "If you have any concerns or questions, please contact your home school campus administration."
